The demands placed on enterprise IT environments have evolved – and so have the options. The open-source Odoo ERP system is known for its agility, but few realise that it can now also be deployed in highly critical, high-availability environments such as IBM’s Power platform.

OBS Finland has developed the capability to build and maintain Odoo natively on IBM Power infrastructure. This opens up entirely new possibilities for clients who either require extreme reliability or wish to leverage their existing Power infrastructure as part of their IT strategy.

On 14 May 2025, IBM is hosting an infrastructure event in Suomenlinna, and for the first time, OBS will appear as an official speaker. The event brings together IBM's infrastructure partners – now including a local Odoo provider. We'll highlight how Odoo ERP can be deployed on Power, especially in business areas that have not yet been digitalised.

A word from our Country Director: "A learning curve – but worth it"

OBS Finland's Country Director, Ossi Mäntylahti, will be present and shares his insights on working with the platform:

"IBM’s mainframe environment has an extremely reliable reputation – and for good reason. But that reliability comes at the price of complexity. Even we needed a moment to learn how to use the environment. And we were practically born with a keyboard in our hands."

— Ossi Mäntylahti, Country Director, OBS Finland

Why Odoo on Power?

Odoo is known as a modular, modern, and quick-to-deploy ERP system. When combined with the stability and security of IBM Power infrastructure, it creates a unique proposition that serves two key use cases:

  1. Existing Power Environments – If a company already operates on Power, Odoo can now be deployed natively. This opens the door for digitalising specific areas of business without needing to overhaul the entire IT infrastructure.
  2. Extreme Uptime Requirements – The Power platform is renowned for providing uptime levels reaching six or even eight nines (99.9999% – 99.999999%). This translates to just seconds of unscheduled downtime per year – a crucial feature for business-critical operations.

Panel Discussion: Location Matters

The event will also include a panel discussion on a very topical subject: where does your data physically reside? Recent geopolitical shifts have prompted many organisations to reconsider the actual location of their cloud services. After all, the “cloud” is ultimately just someone else’s computer – and where it is matters more than ever in terms of security, compliance, and reliability.

OBS brings to the table a solution where Odoo can be deployed in the client’s self-managed IBM Power environment – within Finland, in a private data centre, or in a domestic cloud.

In Summary

Odoo is no longer just a cost-effective ERP for SMEs – it can now be deployed in the most demanding infrastructure environments. OBS Finland is helping shape a future where localisation, openness, and reliability come together seamlessly.

Come meet us in Suomenlinna on 14 May 2025 – see you at IBM’s infrastructure event!
