Odoo 20 has not been officially released yet, but the first roadmap already gives a clear indication of where things are heading. Odoo aims to become simpler, more intuitive, more automated—and significantly more AI-driven. While the roadmap itself humorously describes its content as a “list of things we will maybe do,” it still provides valuable insight into the strategic direction of the next version.

Odoo 20 is expected to be officially unveiled during Odoo Experience 2026 in Brussels (September 24–26, 2026). Until then, details may evolve, but one thing is already clear: AI is no longer treated as a standalone feature—it is becoming an assistance layer embedded across business processes.

Note: This article will be continuously updated as new information about Odoo 20 becomes available.

Odoo 19 vs. Odoo 20

While Odoo 19 focused heavily on expanding features and improving usability across apps, Odoo 20 appears to take the next step by embedding intelligence directly into everyday workflows. In Odoo 19, many improvements centered around performance, UI refinements, and adding capabilities across modules. Odoo 20, however, shifts the focus toward simplification and automation—especially through AI. Instead of just offering more features, the platform aims to actively assist users in completing tasks, making decisions, and reducing manual work. In short, Odoo 19 made the system more powerful, while Odoo 20 is set to make it smarter and easier to use.

AI Becomes Practical for Everyday Use

One of the most striking aspects of Odoo 20 is how AI is integrated across the system—not just for text generation or chatbots. The roadmap highlights AI in areas such as Accounting, Website, Helpdesk, and even in creating and updating records.

The goal is clear: reduce manual work, speed up decision-making, and support users who are not domain experts.

A good example is "Accounting for non-CFOs": Odoo aims to make financial data easier to understand and help users quickly detect anomalies. An AI agent can run through treasury and financing audit checks, summarize findings, and flag anomalies—all without requiring deep accounting expertise.

The Website Builder will leverage AI to assist with content creation, image handling, and page editing. Users will be able to describe changes in natural language and have them applied automatically.

The AI Create/Update feature allows users to search, reassign, and create records across the entire database using natural language prompts—for example, reassigning all leads from one salesperson to another with a single instruction.

Helpdesk also gets AI support, with agents able to find solutions based on similar past tickets and summarize chatter conversations automatically.

POS and Commerce Become More Practical

In the Point of Sale, the focus is on stability and simplification. Hardware integration is expected to become much easier: browser-based access to local devices via Chromium eliminates the need to import certificates, printer configuration is significantly simplified, and the whole setup becomes more stable.

The roadmap also mentions automatic combo application, improved kiosk support, reduced RAM usage, a new snooze product availability feature for self-ordering menus, and new payment integrations including Mollie, M-Pesa, Bancontact/Wero, and cash machines from Glory, Cashdro, and Cashmatic.

A redesigned floor plan editor with new table shapes (square, rectangular, round, oval), background images, and better layout options rounds out the restaurant improvements.

For restaurants, retail, and self-ordering scenarios, this means less technical friction and faster daily operations.

Website, SEO, and eCommerce Get a Major Polish

Odoo 20 will likely be especially interesting for marketing and web teams. The roadmap includes performance improvements, faster loading times, microdata (JSON-LD), better redirect management, and fixes for SEO-critical topics like no-index, sitemap, and canonical URLs. It also introduces a revamped blog UI.

On the eCommerce side, notable additions include automated cross-sell, standalone catalog pages, a return management flow, a new dashboard, rating requests, and a promotion progress bar.

Marketing Automation receives a major overhaul with a new visual flow builder that supports a wide range of step types: Email, SMS, WhatsApp, Activity, Note, Go To, Split, Filter, Delay, Interactions, AI steps, and more.

Overall, Website, eCommerce, and Marketing are becoming more tightly integrated—not just visually, but across the entire customer journey.

Services and Planning Are Merging

A notable shift is the renaming and deeper integration of Field Service into Planning. The roadmap shows unified workflows combining resources, roles, tasks, and scheduling under a single Planning module—with material assignment to employees and a cleaner scheduling interface.

Timesheets are also becoming smarter, with a built-in timer widget and an AI assistant that suggests timesheet entries based on user activity—tracking things like time spent in the Project app, discussions, and pull requests.

Payroll Gets a Significant Overhaul

Payroll is one of the areas with the most visible changes in Odoo 20. A new dashboard gives HR managers an immediate overview of pending tasks: missing bank accounts, employees without contracts, outdated payslips, and missing identification numbers—all with direct action buttons.

Equally significant is the removal of work entries. Instead of managing a separate work entry calendar, payroll will work directly from Time Off data, drastically simplifying the payroll preparation process.

Phone and Communication Get a Major Upgrade

Odoo 20 introduces a significant expansion of its Phone capabilities. Users will be able to purchase phone numbers in over 100 countries directly from Odoo, with a visual callflow configuration tool that supports time conditions, queues, number routing by country, and holiday calendars—making it possible to set up professional phone systems without third-party tools.

The Discuss and Phone modules also get a new Audio/Video/Transcript player, which shows a synchronized transcript alongside call recordings. This makes it easy to review conversations, search through what was said, and follow up on action items directly from within Odoo.

Accounting Becomes More Accessible

Odoo 20 introduces one highly practical accounting improvement in its main release: direct payments from within Odoo. Users can send payment batches directly to their bank with a single signature or generate SEPA XML files for manual processing—without leaving the platform.

Mobile Gets a New Interface

The mobile experience in Odoo 20 is being redesigned from the ground up. The new interface reorganizes form views for smaller screens, making fields and actions easier to access on touch devices. This is a meaningful improvement for field workers, sales reps, and anyone using Odoo on the go.

New Industries

Odoo 20 introduces dedicated industry solutions for several new verticals:

  • Hotel+: Occupancy management, channel manager (Channex), revenue management system, housekeeping, and seasonal pricelists
  • Construction: Quoting with work items and overhead costs, planning with WBS and subcontracting, progress-driven billing
  • Recruitment Firm: Integrated CRM-Recruitment-Invoicing flow, better talent applicant integration, new portal view
  • New verticals: Auto Repair Shop, Custom Industrial Equipment, Nursing/Retirement Home, Pet Groomer, Community Care

Documents and Knowledge: Group Sharing

Documents and Knowledge articles can now be shared with entire groups rather than individual users. This makes access management significantly easier for larger teams, allowing HR departments, sales teams, or project groups to manage their own shared workspaces without admin involvement.

Sign: Automation Meets the Workflow

The Sign module gets tighter integration with the rest of Odoo through automated sign requests. Signature requests can now be triggered automatically by workflow stage changes or automated actions, with support for both dynamic signers (linked to record fields) and fixed signers. This means contracts, NDAs, and employment agreements can be sent for signature without any manual steps.

Conclusion: A Release Focused on Simplification

Odoo 20 does not appear to be defined by a single “wow” feature. Instead, a consistent pattern runs through the roadmap: simplify processes, embed AI where work happens, and further integrate all applications.

The release touches virtually every module—from Payroll and Phone to Manufacturing and Sign—with a clear bias toward reducing friction for everyday users rather than adding complexity for power users.

For businesses, this means one thing: don’t rely on final features yet—but start identifying which areas could benefit the most, especially POS, Website, Accounting, Services, Planning, and Marketing.

Odoo 20 is not just another upgrade. It is a step toward a more integrated, assisted, and intelligent business platform.

Take a look at Odoo 20 Roadmap

The official Odoo 20 roadmap was presented by Luc Nailis, Product Owner at Odoo. As Odoo itself humorously notes, it is a "list of things we will maybe do" — so details may still change before the official release. Odoo 20 is expected to be unveiled at Odoo Experience 2026 in Brussels (September 24–26, 2026).
